Portrait of Dr Philippa Lord

As a chartered counselling psychologist registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), I offer individual psychotherapy for adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties at any stage of their life. I have a postgraduate diploma in applied psychology (PG Dip), a postgraduate certificate in low-intensity cognitive behavioural interventions (PG Cert), a master’s in affective disorders (MSc), and a doctorate in counselling psychology (PsychD).

The foundation of any successful psychotherapy is the relationship between you and me, so whether it is short- or long-term therapy, I will strive to create a relationship that is grounded in trust, curiosity and respect.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy can be helpful for a range of psychological challenges. Some things like phobias or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) tend to be time-limited therapy, usually spanning 8-12 weeks, whereas other things like relationship difficulties, depression or anxiety might be more open-ended. My approach is integrative, which simply means I strive to integrate my knowledge and experience in a way which is best suited to meet your individual needs.

Insomnia

After years of researching insomnia, I then went on to complete a masterclass at Oxford University’s Sleep & Circadian Neuroscience Institute so that I could offer CBTi to my patients. The treatment programme I use takes 6-8 weeks. The initial appointment is 90 minutes to enable a thorough history to be taken, with subsequent appointments lasting 50 minutes.

With 15 years’ experience across the NHS, private practice and charitable sectors, I have supported adults with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. Whether you are facing a specific challenge or feeling stuck in patterns you would like to change, we can work together at a pace that feels right for you.

Sometimes it can be helpful to talk to someone before making a decision to see them. If that's the case, I'm very happy to do an introductory call to discuss what you would like to work on - reach out and we can arrange a time to talk.
